“Show Up for Love Over Hate”
Recently, several local Islamic Centers in Southern California and across the country have received threatening, hateful anonymous letters. We have seen a spike of racial violence and harassment targeting Muslims, immigrants, people of color, and other vulnerable communities since the election of Donald Trump.
In a show of solidarity, a group of local community members and families have organized a community-building event to support our Muslim brothers and sisters in this moment of increased xenophobia, hate speech and hate crime.
What: “Show Up for Love Over Hate”
Who: Asad Baig, Maria Brenes, Jung Hee Choi, Joseph Devall, Xiomara Corpeno, Rev. Zachary Hoover, John Kim, Jeremy Lahoud, Eugene Lee, Mari Ryono, Luis Sanchez, Liz Sunwoo
When: Friday, December 9, 12:30-2 p.m.
Where: Islamic Center of Southern California
434 S. Vermont Avenue
Los Angeles, CA 90020
Why: This event is being organized by concerned community members and families who wish to express support and unity with the American-Muslim community in Los Angeles. The hate expressed in the anonymous letters do not represent Los Angeles. There are many Angelenos who reject hate and fear and who stand united with the American Muslim community.
