Jessenia Reyes currently serves as an Policy & Research Analyst at Advancement Project California where she will help lead the organization’s first effort in community mobilization for parents with children ages 0-8 in Southeast LA. She is a first generation student who was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley where she attended local public schools and received her B.A. in Child and Adolescent Development at California State University, Northridge. While earning her B.A., Jessenia worked full time for a non-profit organization that focused on after school programming for underperforming middle schools in low-income areas; subsequently, she developed a passion for working with at risk youth, and undocumented families within the school system. As an advocate for education, she has participated in multiple platforms to help support families and students as a mentor/tutor, as well as help schools increase college awareness, plan and partake in community events and coordinate local fundraisers. Due to her experience on the field through multiple CBO’s and school systems, she realized that education is the key to help empower families and children to overcome environmental and personal challenges. Jessenia received her MSW at University of Southern California, with a concentration on Community Organization, Planning and Administration and an additional certificate in Nonprofit Management and Policy.
